If you have a second machine to test the drives I would recommend taking the drive out and putting it into a working computer just to eliminate a drive failure from the list.
I had a few drives fail and they look like they are working fine in device manager however they will not read a disc properly.
So like I said if you can find a second machine to install the drive in for testing it I would try that. Once you know if the drive is actually good or not then you can figure out why it doesn't want to read.
I'm checking on the mobo. seems it is a 2003 year series... it might not be Win 7. compliant.
From what I can find in the Window 7 Compatibility list CHAINTECh is not Win7 compliant.
More info if I can find.
The manufacturer is ACHME. Not Compliant. so may have to use all Drivers in Vista or XP compability mode.
Entry level only. System tested as:
System as Tested
Processor: AMD Athlon 2500+ Barton Motherboard: Chaintech 7NIL2 nForce2 400 Ultra Memory: 512 MB GeIL PC-3500 (2x256MB) Graphics: ATI Radeon 9600 Pro 128 MB (Catalyst 3.6 w/ DX9) Storage: Maxtor 40GB IDE ATA/100 Media: Optorite 52x24x52x ATAPI CD-RW Operating Sytstem: Windows 2000 Professional SP4
Well it worked before but after i tried to overclock my processor in the bios it stoped working.

If it worked before you over clocked and doesn't after the overclock, put it back to default. If it goes away dont overclock if not its something else.
Ken
I went into the bios and went to Advanced chipset features. Then i tried to change system performance to aggressive/turbo and changed the fsb frequency to 200. Then i changed the memory frequency from by spd to auto. I used cpufsb to change the processor from 2004mhz to 2100mhz but it only lasts until i reboot. Even if i load fail-safe defaults the cd drive ( samsung 52x max) and the cd/dvd drive (sahara dual double layer 16x) wont work.
When i go to standard cmos it says by ide secondary master "SAMSUNG CDmROM' SHm1"and when i press enter on it and press ide hdd auto-detection it doesnt do anything. The dvd drive doesnt even show there.
Seems you never actually read and undstood some of what your saying>
you state:Simply put YOU CAN NOT OVERCLOCK YOUR SYSTEM.. That is what you said... All worked FINE till .Element7 said:
That is overclocking. ACTUALLY.,
To remove Overclock it means: revert back to DEFAULT... pure and simple.
