Laptop is delayed in resuming from sleep.

About 75% of the time, when I lift the lid to resume my laptop from sleep, the laptop will not resume immediately. The screen will remain black, the wifi light stays disabled, and while I can hear the fan, nothing else really happens.

Usually after anywhere from 3 to 20 seconds, though, the laptop will eventually wake up, and I believe it tends to be when the hard drive actually starts spinning -- the hard drive light will blink and I'll hear the faint 'click' of the hard disk.

The resume used to be more or less instant. I've reformatted since I first noticed this problem, yet I still have it, which makes me think it might be a hardware issue.

Any ideas on if I can do anything to fix it?

HB1547, you might want to check the timeout on your hard disk. It looks like your computer is trying to load the os and your hard disk is not ready. Check the timeouts in your power options to see if your hard disk is going to sleep and that would be a point to check.

Also, with today's hard disks, you really don't gain a lot with sleep or hibernate.

Onclejean, it used to be that hard disks would just wear out after a certain time. Now they are made much better and they have an internal slow down if not used for a while. they will in most cases last a lot longer than your computer will last.

The hard disk is going to sleep, but it has been for years now, well before this problem developed. It never takes that long to start up.

I also dual-boot Linux, and I've noticed when I resume on Linux I don't seem to have this issue. Any ideas? Sorry for the late bump
