Windows 7: Acer Aspire x1800 - need help locating and reconnecting RAM.

Windows 7

As far as I can tell, it is indeed an overheating issue. Since opening mine and cleaning it, I've been running it with the case open and a fan directed toward it, and it generally works fine except for on hot days. The heat seems to be the only variable factor, and as far as I can tell, if you can keep that issue under control, you should get your machine working again. Mine has been super-temperamental, even though I got it working again it will freeze as soon as the temperature gets up at all.

Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit

I installed a program called Core Temp a couple of days ago and I've been monitoring and logging the CPU temperature. Both cores sit around 37 to 43 degrees C. It only went slightly above 50 degrees twice. According to Intel this CPU should be able to run normally up to 75 degrees. My computer has still been crashing and freezing multiple times over the past couple of days. Since the computer came with Vista I'm wondering if it may be a compatibility issue with Windows 7. I'm not completely convinced its a heat issue with my particular computer but it's still possible. I've noticed the heat sink circled in the attached image gets very hot after just 5 mins use. I don't know anything about computer hardware so can someone confirm whether this heat sink is for the motherboard. If anyone has any other suggestions ideas I'd be happy to hear them. Thanks
