    Trendnet TU2-ET100 installing without CD

    Hello,

I have an Acer Aspire S3 laptop with no ethernet port and no CD drive, but the room I have just moved into has no wireless connection, only a broadband cable. I have been looking for an adapter so that I can connect the cable to the USB port and get to the internet through that, but it seems lots of them aren't compatible with Windows 7 (64 bit). This one TRENDnet | Products | USB 1.0 / 1.1 / 2.0 Devices | TU2-ET100 from Trendnet claims to be, but it looks like the driver is installed from a CD... which is no good for me because I have no CD drive! The drivers can be downloaded from the trendnet website, is this all I need to install the device? I really don't want to waste any more money or time!

Any advice or experiences very welcome, thanks.

Hello brachiosaurus. Welcome to the forum.

Yes, the downloaded driver is the same (sometimes better) than the one on the CD. I always install the driver from download if available.

Typically driver CDs are good for only two things. Either a drink coaster or a frisbee. Very often, by the time you purchase that hardware and take it home, there are newer drivers available. I always go to the website first, even if something I buy comes with a CD. You should be able to download them when you have a connection, and then install them to make your wired port functional.
