Canon MX340 Printer – Install Help

Alright so, tried installing our printer on this system again (had to clean install earlier in the month) – didn’t work. I just got done doing this not too long ago on my mom’s Vista laptop for the same reason, without the installer disk (we’ve misplaced it) however, it simply will not work on my Win 7 x64 that way for whatever reason. The driver installs and everything, but it’s just not getting me to the WiFi setup. I can’t even remember how I’d done it on my mom’s laptop.

Wound up having to restore to a previous point on this system because after I’d uninstalled this thing, and tried again it gave me some crap about the Microsoft XPS Document Writer thing and wouldn’t install the driver for this printer again, telling me I’d have to reinstall the XPS (which doesn’t make sense, as it was still listed in the Devices and Printers – hopefully that mini-restore fixed it).

That said I seem to be having some extreme Hyperinsulinemic-Hypoglycemia attacks (excess blood insulin not related to diabetes) this past week and so it is entirely possible the problem is just my inability to think very well right now. So just need a little hand-holding through this here, please feel free to do so as if I’m a little kid because that’s how I’m like right now (blegh). I really need to print out some things for an Endocrinology consult on the 30th so if we can sort this out before then (and save me the tremendous PAIN of transferring the files to the other system to print), that would be very awesome.

P.S. if it is relevant to why I’m having this issue, the “Canon PIXMA Wireless Setup Assistant (Windows)” file under “Software”, within the “Windows – Windows 7 (x64) DOES NOT WORK. Trouble shoot set it to compatibility but even that and “Run As Administrator” won’t get it to open and run. Just flashes something up, and disappears.

Wow... well thanks. I guess I'll have to try and figure it out myself.

Seriously, nobody knows how to manually set up the WiFi for printers like this without the original installer disk, or the stupid network tool (refusing to do anything)? No one at all? The manual doesn't say how...

I'd still really appreciate some help. I swear I'll write out what to do and never have this problem again and also help others in the future in the same pickle as I am, where able.

Just really need my printer back and while negating the pain of moving the computer next to it every single time I have to use it. That's redundant...

Is there really an important reason why I can't simply use the x86 Windows 7 “Canon PIXMA Wireless Setup Assistant (Windows)”, seeing as the x64 version refuses to function, even launch?

    Thanks...

Dont suppose you ever figured this one out? I've been having the same problem, unable to get the wireless setup assistant to run. It's beyond annoying.

No, I never did. Its still throwing me for a loop. I have refrained from attempting to use the other versions of that tool because I know that has the propensity to be a monumental mistake. I have no desire to risk yet another clean install any time soon. Just having to deal with pulling the printer out and using the wired connection when I need to print.

I'm very disappointed with Cannon. I don't believe I will ever venture to even consider their products in future, too dismal a standard of 'support' for my taste. It would appear this issue has been ongoing for over a year. Unacceptable.

Agreed. Cannon's response to the problem was to send me a link to the very same wireless setup assistant that is not working, blatantly failing to properly read or consider the email I wrote explaining the problem I'm having. Useless!

    wow, just wow.

My only suggestion to fix this issue is to do what the guys in office space did to their fax machine. I've had to install and reinstall this printer in two different locations a couple of times and each time has had me using words in my extended vocabulary.

I'll be keeping my eyes peeled here to see if something helpful comes up.

If it helps whoever may be able to respond, I am able to access the printer information on my laptop browser, which means that my printer is, indeed, online, but for whatever reason I am not able to print from my laptop.

Truly, this printer was sent by the himself.

    Okay,

My husband and I put our heads together and this is what we discovered for ours. The printer was originally installed on our main computer. For some reason, it got "unshared" to the laptop. He went in and changed it to a shared printer and now i can print from my laptop. woot!

    Hope this helps somebody.
