Glad you got it fixed. So it was some wonderful setting in the registry that screwed things up. One to remember in case it somehow does it again.
Yeah, like I said, there was no Lower filter, just the upper, and it referred to the LaCie, So deleting it seemed to do it, and again, it did not return.
Don't know why it got put in there, or why the ext would not show up using the top rear ports, or what was going on. I don't know a ton about the how and why of computers.
HP should get some techs that know more than just to tell you to re install windows.
    Seems to be OK though.
    Thanks,
    Tony

well this thing is still giving me trouble, not letting me eject the hard drive, in safely remove hardware.
Keeps telling me it is in use, I have every folder shut, what the heck could be using it.?
I was told to eject the external before shutting down. What is causing this?

This tool may help you, try it and see.
    Safely Remove Hardware better alternative

Yes, Thanks, Actually I did come across that last night, 1st I installed "unlocker" but it did not show up when I right clicked on anything, so I took it out.

Yes, this USB Safely Remove seems to be working, but is this just a limited time trial, or is this a reduced options version.
    Seems it says Evaluation version.
Might buy it if it seems OK, but looks like they want you to pay to up grade every year.
Why do things always need up dated if they are working? I can see Anti-Virus programs,
Kind of sucks you have to pay for something when you already paid for an 0perating system.
Read somewhere about disabling file indexing, but would make searches slower.
    Thanks,
    Tony

Use the free trial to determine if it does what you want. If you buy it you get free fixes and upgrades to the program for 1 year (like most software) after that you don't need to buy it again. I have been using it for a couple of years and I have not upgraded to the latest version as the version I got is working fine and I don't need to spend the money. It is not a subscription.
I have no connection with the company, it is a tool I use and it helps me out so I am passing the knowledge along.

Right I understand you not "selling" the product. OK so just the 1 time purchase is enough.
I was ready to write, and say, this USB safely remove is pretty slick, I left a folder open on the drive, and it even closed it also.
I might set it to automatically power down the ext HD also.
    Thanks,
    Tony
