What new parts work best with Win7?

Hey. Since my last computer is broken...and seems beyond repair. I'm in the market for a new computer. Of course as a student I'm low on money. Though I still want it to be worth it. So with the current prices I was thinking $1000-$1200 AUD.

I didn't come across any other posts. and I can only assume this is the right board.
I was wondering if anyone out there has done any tests or has any recommendations for parts and or brands that might be better to run Windows 7 with. Whether it be for future options or if that some brands are simply just not performing like they once did.

There is so much information out there its hard to keep up with current tech when you're so busy.

The best parts depends on what you want to do with your PC. Gamer? Video editor? Office type work only? Social website/Twitter interface?

Let's start with - Where do you want to go today?

That's a very good point. I generally use it for study and games.

I want to have two monitors and for it to be efficient with latest games.

So I guess the real answer is a gamers PC for the purpose of playing new, old and future games.

Don't waste your time and money trying to make a gaming computer that is future-proof, because it can't be done. Tomorrow your brand new $700 graphics card would be outdated and it won't even support the new version of DirectX.

I would build my own PC with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, an nVidia graphics card somewhere in the $150 to $200 range, 2 to 4 GB of DDR2 memory, and a decent motherboard around $120. This type of system would play games nicely and should cost way below your current budget.

I'm not sure if you're in america or australia, though I assume youre quoting australian prices. But yes. All I meant is that my last computer could still play games like Prototype well enough. I don't have a budget for a 700$ GPU. I was thinking of making a system with specs just like that. but I was more interested with what brands might be better for Win7. Anythign to look at basically. i'll have about 3 weeks till I get the money together to build it. So research in relation to windows 7 interests me.

Thanks for the input . I'll take it into consideration.

Also. I did just build a computer for someone with those specs recently. And it seems to be fine. However I didnt put as much time in it as I would for my own money. Rich ******* >_>.

Build a cheaper Quad core (like the Q8400) and a decent motherboard (like a Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P) for about $115 and some decent DDR2 RAM and whatever graphics card you want. That system should be great for you. Going AMD would be fine too.

Just my 2 cents; For a drive the WC Caviar Black 750 has been great. So I gues I'm recomending the Caviar Black drives with 32 cache.
