Change a Dynamic/Invalid Hard drive to Valid

    Hi

I have new PC and when I attach my 2TB external USB attached hard drive it does not show up in explorer, it does show in Disk Manager where it says it is Dynamic and Invalid.

How do I make it Valid?

This Hard Drive works fine on another PC, both with Windows 7

    thanks

You need to change the partition from Dynamic to Basic. Here is the tutorial. Convert a Dynamic Disk to a Basic Disk You can get Partition Wizard at this link which you will need to change.

You shouldn't lose data, but you would be foolish to assume that. Back up the data on that drive to some other location.

    Hi

just to clear up a point, the disk is not only dynamic it is invalid, Windows 7 should read a dynamic disk, as stated in the link you gave me.

Will making it basic going to fix the invalid thing.

    Thanks

Frankly---I've never before previously seen an "invalid" disk.

All you can do is try. But copy the data elsewhere if at all possible.

Was that disk part of a spanned partition on another system?
