cpubenchmarks.net says that the FX-6300 is better than the i5 3570k

I was just looking at random cpu's in cpubenchmarks.net and found something really interesting. The FX-6300 is 9 ranks and 301 points MORE than the 3570k. I thought that the FX-8350 was the AMD equivalent. Is it just me or is this actually true?...

It shouldn't matter much (the outcome), but it is likely due to the benchmark or however they arrived at the score.

Sorry but what do you mean by that, cos i thought it was calculated with the mean(average) score using numerous tests

Take a look at this. It quite categorically puts the Intel processor well ahead of the AMD one.

    AnandTech - Bench - CPU

In fact, there is only one test where AMD performs better than Intel, and that's the 7-zip test. Even so, the difference (25) is negligible.

First of all, you are looking at a benchmark rather than real world applications. The FX processors, in general, are better than Intel processors at large multi-tasked, multi-threaded applications because of the number of cores. The I5 3570 is a gaming processor. Games, in general, do not use more than two cores although a few will use three or four.
I suggest you go to anandtech.com, click on "Bench" at the top right of the page, and select "CPU Product Benchmarks". Chose the first CPU as the FX-6300 (it is listed) and the second as the I5 3570. Then, on the left side leave the "Browse CPU Benchmarks" at "Sysmark". Then, over to the right side again and click "View Comparison"
Scroll down and look at the benchmarks for the software and games listed. There is a wide variety to look at.
I believe this will give you a more rounded comparative view of the two processors. A processor should be chosen on your primary use of the computer. GOOD LUCK.
