HELP !!! My DVD drive stopped reading

I have a custom built PC with a Pioneer bd rom drive. None of my dvd's can be read, I can view some of them IF I use Total Media Player, but, the dvd drive doesn't give me any information about the inserted dvd. I've ran FixIt.....no help. I've removed the upper and lower filters, no help. I've removed the drive totally and let Windows detect it upon restart.....still doesn't work. I've tried other external drives, and I have the same problem with them detecting and reading the dvd's/ I'm lost as to what to try next......any help?? I'm running Win 7 Ultimate x64 and I'm about ready to smash it.....sheesh. I've also tried Virtual Clone Drive and that doesn't work now either.......
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated !!
    Thank You

Yes, ALL my drives lights light up.......what confuses me is that even Virtual Clone Drive doesn't work now. I haven't downloaded any new programs......strange. I'm overwriting my Win 7 right now, MAYBE that will help.......with my luck, probably not.
Thank You for answering me !!

Thank You, I've got it. I was up ALL night because it bothered me. I hate leaving things undone. It was my OS. I reinstalled it, went though almost 300 updates and now EVERYTHING works. I couldn't imagine that 4 dvd drives and the Virtual Clone all didn't work at the same time. VIRUS..........GGGRRRR, and I use Kaspersky, I never used to let anything through.

Thank You for all your help. I'm sure I'll be back with more questions.
