Promise Sata and Windows 7
I may have blundered.
I have in the art department four HP xw8200 workstations windows 7 64bit.
I wanted to add two additional hard drives. I read the HP forums and the recommended Sata card was the Promise Sata 150 tx4. I bought four of them. I install the first card into the first xw8200. Connected the sata cable to the extra hard drive. Upon boot I got forced into a fast build (ctrl+f) or a reboot. If I did a fast build I got the menu for array and so forth. I didn’t want to create an array. I only wanted the extra hard drives to be added so that I would have four hard drives. I rebooted into Windows 7. In device manager the device was listed as "other" and the device was not supported.
The second machine there was no prompting on boot. In Windows 7 the device was not listed in device manager. And the extra hard drive was not detected. Same computers - same sata cards - different experiences.
I then look around for a Windows 7 driver. Nothing. On the Microsoft compatibility list only one Promise the 'FASTTRAKTX4200'and the compatiblity site did not list the Promise Sata 150.
I don’t know what to do. The first machine finds it when the computer powers up. The second computer finds nothing.
Is there a solution with the Promise Sata 150? There are Windows Server 2003 drives on the HP site...or do I need to find four replacements using Microsoft’s compatibility list for a PCI Sata card?
Thanks
