    New ssd for £80

Hey guys I was told that getting an ssd would be a great next minor upgrade for a low price I was wondering what size should I get and would it need to be ran in raid? or how can it be set to just have my os and maybe a few files but my bulk files to be saved to my hdd?

For that price, you can get a 120-128GB SSD.

You wouldn't run it in RAID. There was a mode for some Intel motherboards called Smart Response Technology:

It used a smallish SSD (32 GB or smaller) as a cache for a mechanical HD. That required a RAID setup.

I recommend using a 120GB drive for the OS and applications. Set the SATA controller to AHCI.

An SSD is the single, biggest upgrade for a system that is running off a HDD. No other component upgrade can do what an SSD can do. I can fully recommend a Samsung 830 SSD if you can find them, the new model is out and the 830's are going fast!

Do a clean install of Win7 on the SSD and put drivers and updates on it and then install your programs. Anything other than that needs to go on the HDD.......ie the User's folder, any music/pictures/documents/videos. Get rid of your hibernation file as it usually reserves quite a bit of space. Adjust your pagefile and system restore to something a little more reasonable as well. That should have you taken care of!
