Windows 7 will not recognize USB HDD devices

Thank you everybody for sharing your advice. I see many people have had similar issues and had it resolved. Sorry if this sounds like a repeat, but having read through many responses, I have not found what will fix my problem.

Last week, I installed Windows 7, build 7600, 64-bit. It's great, except the issues with driver compability, etc.; and now this. I have two different Hard Drives, both connected via USB, that the system does not recognize at all.

Both have their own power source and previously worked in Windows Vista 64-bit, and both are barely one year old with no prior issues. The Black Widow (below) also is less than one year old.

#1 is a Quantum Fireball lct in an Acomdata enclosure;
#2 is a Maxtor SATA connected through a Thermaltake Black Widow docking station. I do not have another SATA drive to test in it but am positive it is in perfect condition.

Both hard drives mentioned are for backups and I really need to
access a b/u set.

I have reviewed the information in the disk management msc, the disks do not appear at all.

my maxtor external driver wont appear also..

In Device Manager, do any of your devices appear at fault?

Could be a chipset or other driver in need of update.

No device errors. What drivers? These are USB connected hard drives.

I did go back and change the setting to allow for automatic play of devices - that didn't help either.

I plug in these devices and they are not seen at all. There is no damage to either unit, their power supplies, or cords. They worked last when I was running Vista 64-bit, and they ran just fine.

Provide system specs. Also, connect a known working device to the same ports - not a drive - and confirm that the port is working.
