Seagate External Hard drive, starts up but doesn't finish.

I have a Seagate GoFlex Desk 3TB external hard drive. I got it about.. 6 months ago and I've never had a problem with it up until last week.
I plugged it in and it started making a normal fan sound like is usually does, then after a few seconds it stopped which made it seem like it was shut off.
It's been doing this constantly since last week and I don't know what the problem is, or how to fix it.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Just a thought (or 2):

    • Try using a different USB port.
    • Try jiggling the USB in the socket (gently).
    • Try a different USB cable.
    • Be sure that you test with the laptop on power supply, not just battery.

Obviously I'm thinking that the connection is faulty somehow, which would disconnect and power down the external - even if it has it's own power supply.

I appreciate the ideas, but I've tried all of them already.
But because of chance, I tried them again just a few minutes ago, still not working.

Try testing the drive with Seagates diagnostic program, Sea Tools.
