See if this helps, Gary.
Open an elevated command prompt. Type net start shellhwdetection > Enter.
Or, from the Services console, locate Shell Hardware Detection and make sure that the Startup type is set to “Automatic” and the Service status is “Started”.
autoplay troubleshooters - Microsoft Community
Thanks Lee but that didn't help, the service was on Auto and running.
Sfc /scannow found issues and this is the 4th run with a reboot after each of the first three.
I should add I installed a driver for this reader panel and it was Realtek USB driver. If I remember the auto play issues started after that, so I uninstalled it.Code:Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601] Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.
