Installing SATA DVD/RW with Asus Rampage 2 gene

My old DVD/RW was connected by IDE cable but this died a few weeks back.

I've checked my motherboard to see if it will accept SATA drives, to which it says it does.

I have bought a new DVD/RW and its connected via a SATA cable. I have plugged the SATA cable into the SATA port on the M'Board and connected it to the DVD/RW. I was assuming it would be 'Plug and Play' like the IDE cable but it's not showing in my computer.

What do I need to do to get it working? I thought I'd ask you guys first encase I downloaded drivers that I don't need.

    Many Thanks
    Dan

Do you have the power cable plugged into the drive as well? If the computer is powered on, can you push the button to open the tray? If not, then it would definitely be a power issue. It may seem like a simple step, but I'm only asking because you didn't mention it...only the SATA data cable.

You should access bios on power up to see if the drive in question is shown
If it is not there then your machine is not recognising it and windows will not see it
If it is there then please post a shot of your disk management window

    Start>type diskmgmt.msc>enter

Is it connected to the single black SATA port on the motherboard, or in the blue group of six? If it is the black one either check the bios and make sure the JMicron controller is enabled, or connect it to a spare port on the blue ones.

    Thank you guys :).

I'm going to do a print screen and then check the BIOS.

I did manage to put a blank CD in there last night and it gave me the option to 'Burn a new disk' and I did this is WMP.

I dragged a album I wanted to be burnt and fired away. It made the usual running noises and motorised sounds and then 5 minutes later, ejected the CD. I put the CD into my CD player and it was just 1 track (Should had been at least 13) and it didn't have any music on but it had the clock showing how far you are into the song.

    Thank You!

As long as its coming up in windows then it should be working fine im guessing your cd issue is a software/user problem, if you need any more help let us know

I think you've spoke to soon.

I have just visited the BIOS and it shows it in there. I then came to the desktop and went to 'My Computer' and it wasn't showing the drive.

I've inserted the Asus Rampage M/b CDROM to see if there is a SATA driver I should install and I put it into the new CD drive and it didn't play it automatically like it should. It doesn't even show in 'My Computer'

Check disk management again see if its still showing
Do you have two optical drives?
Intermitent behaviour like this is normally caused by a bad connection or a faulty drive, i would unplug both ends of sata cable and reconnect, do the drive drawer still open and shut when device is not listed?
