I'm getting a SSD sometime after the first of the year and was wanting anyones input on what the best SSD or ones preference for an SSD. I'm looking at a minimum of 256 GB but looking at the the 512 GB. What say you all?

Samsung, Plextor, Corsair Neutron GTX, OCZ Vertex, OCZ Vector. All top performers and all have good reputations and/or long warranties.

Personally, I'm a Samsung or Crucial type. My opinion is anything that does not have a Sandforce controller.

Seen a few other members getting the new Samsung drives recently think they are doing pretty good in reviews I personally just bought a few ocz vertex drives as for me they were the best performance for a cheap price (I bought 60 & 120 gb drives) but I'm not after top performance with a top price tag

FWIW: I have a couple of the Intel 520 series SSD's and have been pleased, both are 256Gigs. I have them in my Toshiba Laptop. Would buy again.

Thanks guys...it's been a big help. I must admit I to was looking at the Samsung line but as ya'll say, it's a bit pricey. Although I still have almost 2 months to decide, will see what the pricing does between now and then.

You should go to the HardOCP website, click on their reviews section, and look through the reviews of the SSDs. They run benchmarks and compare the different models and brands.

In my experience of SSD's so far I think they have a way to go before they can be fully trusted and I haven't found any reason that shows better reliability in any of the main brands already mentioned, so for me the most important factor is support and I can quite safely say Kingston has support which is second to none.

I had an SSD issue which left a Kingston 120GB V+200 ssd SATA-III drive dead in the water and sent them an email thinking they might reply within a week.

I was much impressed when they phoned me the next morning, which i felt was am amazing support response and my problem was swiftly solved

I currently buy and fit these drives in customer builds without fear and have not experienced any issues since.

Last generation Samsung SSD's were probably the top of the heap in terms of reliability. Very few people have had issues with them, and all of the big tech reviewers praised them as rock-solid. Hoping the new 840/840 Pro series is just as reliable. My advice is to stay away from Sandforce based SSD's, other than that, I believe they are just as reliable now as mechanical hard drives.

+1, I fully agree with Steve. The Crucial M4 or the Samsung 300 or 400 (not the Pro) are fine SSDs.

And don't get all caught up in data transfer rates. They mean relatively little for the OS. It's the fast access time that gives you the speed.
