it happens because the new HDD needs to be checked for bad sectors. try to plug in the data cable when you are in the windows environment. then go to the manage section and update the field.
when it recognized the new HDD, try to check it for bad sectors.
May you can boot from ubuntu linux live CD and see the disk.

i tried ones. you should first plug its electrical cable while your pc is off, and the data cable dis attached.
then in the win environment attach the data cable and do what i said before
it happens to me sometime too, i thought it was the problem with psu or miss-configuration of master and slave
the problem was when i attached 2 HDD and 2 optical drive. then it couldn't boot to the os.
