    Touchpad/Keyboard Non-Responsive. Please Help!!

    Hello All,

    Hello all,

I have an Acer 5732Z laptop that has never given me trouble until today. I was in the process of updating my GPS when it told me to restart the computer with the GPS still plugged into the USB drive. However, when the windows 7 login screen came on, I was unable and am still unable to get my touchpad or keyboard to work. The GPS is unplugged and still nothing. It's not disabled (touchpad), safe mode/system restore doesn't work and I am past warranty so Acer cannot help. Any tricks I am missing? Any help would be thankful.

I am currently just stuck on the login screen. Have tried USB mouse and keyboard, nothing.

Uhm, try accessing BIOS settings just to see if the hardware is fine.

Just after you turn it on you see white text on the screen, a line of it says what key to press to get into BIOS. It's usually F2 or F12 or Del. press it a few times until you see BIOS options come up instead of the login screen.

If that works, then it's a Win 7 issue, shutdown the laptop and find an install/repair disk and try to restore the system to the nearest restore point following METHOD TWO of this tutorial. If you don't have an install disk, the first and second steps this tutorial help you getting one for free.

If the closest restore point is too distant or there are no restore points, use your install/repair DVD/USB flashdrive and follow this tutorial.

If you can't get into the BIOS with the keyboard try this. Power down the laptop, unplug the power pack and remove the battery. Now press the power button to drain all residual power from the laptop. Now put the battery back in, plug the power pack back in and boot it up. With a little luck it may be working again.
