some reduce the warranty time if not registered

In some states, that is actually illegal.

I don't know but why worry about it when it's so easy to do?

Aren't there enough big companies with our personal info in their database?

Unless I'm getting some value, or it's absolutely necessary, I don't just give out my info everywhere.

If for no other reason, it's to cut down on getting tons of marketing stuff sent to me and getting phone calls by sales people and being solicited to take polls, as well as the potential of identity theft when these companies get their databases hacked which happens more frequently these days... it's never ending, so I like to avoid stuff like this whenever possible.

I agree with your concern—I'm just as concerned—but methinks you are making too big a deal of it. The only personal info anyone gets from me is my name and an email addy. I never give out my phone numbers. The cell phone doesn't get given out, period. If a site insists they have to have a phone number, they get my home phone with the prefix replaced with 555. If someone tries to call that number, they wind up with directory assistance. That way, no one gets bugged by a *&^%$#@! telemarketer.

My mailing address is different from my home address. I use a private mail service (USPS box regulations are too restrictive) to receive all my mail and packages. That's the only address anyone ever gets. It's much safer than a mailbox that anyone can easily reach into and swipe something from it or having a carrier just drop something on my doorstep that anyone can just come along and pick up. For only $80 bucks a year, it's cheap security.

As far as I know... registering your new drive is not required for warranty, so WHY do I need to give them my name and email address?

I see no need...

Companies are not required to provide any at all, it is their choice and they make the terms.

If they want to stay competitive, they will back their products against defects in materials and workmanship... and, if they advertise that they have warranties, then they are required to provide said warranty.

Don't do it then..............

Not going to, unless someone shows me on their website were it says there is no warranty if you don't register the drives.
