BIOS Automatic fan control

Hi,

I'm planning to use automatic fan control on this PC. As a part of this progress, I removed the manual fan controller and reconnected the CPU fan to the socket on the motherboard.

However the automatic fan control feature (in BIOS) is not working. Fan speed doesn't change. (I'm also unable to control it via Speedfan)


There's a 4-pin connector for CPU fan on the motherboard, but the CPU fan has a 3-pin one.
It was connected to the second three pins, leaving the first pin on the left alone. (Viewing it like if I'm in front of the motherboard)

I made a drawing about the pins. Is it connected correctly?

Motherboard type is Gigabyte G41M-ES2L (Socket 775)

For fan speed control I believe you have to use a 4 wire fan.

I was able to control GPU fan speed though. However I think it had some kind of automatic speed control because when I set it 100% with SpeedFan it became much louder.

I won't be using SpeedFan anymore on this computer. Because of this, I want to revert everything to stock settings.

All the PWMs are now set to 100% except GPU fan because it's not on 100% by default. It was on 40% when I first opened SpeedFan but as a safekeeping I set it to 70%. I checked the option to set everything to 100% on exiting SpeedFan.

I can't see it's speed (not even in SpeedFan, it can only adjust it), the fan *sounds* the usual though.

How do I make sure the GPU fan is on automatic control? Should I do a system restore? (I want to get rid of all the changes made by SpeedFan to make sure everything is like before SpeedFan)

Exactly....

This is not entirely correct.

My Cooler Master n520 has a 3 pin connector, and still has PWM functionality.
