Which laptop processor is better?
I've been going through google, but I can't really come up with a definitive answer.
What are the differences between these two, and which is better?
Core i5 480M
Core i5 3210M

Hi there
both are fine -- for a typical home computer you probably won't even use a fraction of the processors power -- choose the one that consumes the least power or is the cheaper of the two -- Either one of these processors are more than adequate for most typical jobs.
Even an I3 is probably sufficient for a decent basic setup use especially if you have an SSD and loads of RAM --
CPU power is rarely a bottleneck these days. (Extreme Gaming, mega computation such as weather forecasting / complex statistical analysis or huge video editing are exceptions and for these you probably wouldn't choose to use a laptop.
For a laptop choose the one that consumes the least power -- extends battery life.

Is UnknownReverent buying a CPU or a laptop? The discussion reads like a CPU is to be purchased for a desktop system.
The 3210M is third-generation (22nm) Ivy Bridge CPU, so it's to be preferred, all else being equal.
