HDD - Sata Port 2 Device Error, Press F1 to continue on start up??

    Hi All,

I have been given a 3TB Seagate HDD as the original owner believed it to be faulty. So I thought I would take a look after installing it I get this error on boot up.

'Sata Port 2 Device Error, Press F1 to continue'

After continuing to windows its not visible in disk management.

It is visible in the bios menu though.

Any ideas? Is it a throw away?

    Cheers Brizee

I would run a few disk checks on it - starting with chkdsk in cmd. Or the Seatools: SeaTools | Seagate

I have run seatools from the boot cd and the drive appears as 3.86GB and seatools states that as this is not the correct drive size it is unable to perfom any functions on the drive.

It shows up as 3Tb in the bios setting?

I have put the drive into an external case and it now shows up in disk management as 3.86GB.

When I try and initialize as GPT I get an error 'The drive cannot find the sector requested'
