    CPU's not showing 8 cores

Let start at the begainning that when I first built the computer it showed 8 cores. Plus I had it showing 8 cores and all the cores were unpark too in task manager. Sent the computer back to the person that I had got if from. I had upgraded it for him. He tried to install the software Utlilties to check and set stuff for the motherboard. Well it went wrong and he did a system restore. From that point on things when down hill. The computer than would not post. So he called me and we got things back up and running.

But now in task manager it is only showing 4 cores, in msconfig it is showing in the boot that he only can boot up to 4 cpu's. In the device manager it is showing 8 cores. We went into the Bios and everything is set right in there. In the Power Options/advanced settings under Processor performance core parking it is showing 100%. The thing is the computer is running fine but in some areas it does show 8 cores. The thing is he lives on the west coast and I live on the east coast. I think there is some setting that have to be change in the registry.

...You need to leave the settings in msconfig alone. The check box labeled "Number of processors" needs to be unchecked.

    This is a EVGA Z77 FTW with a i7-3770 Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz / bois 1.10

I understand what you are saying and the person that I'm helping does too. It should be showing 8 cpu's in msconfig and not just 4 cpu's. It should be showing 8 cpu's in task manager and it is only showing 4 cpu's. It does show 8 cpu's in device manager. All the i7 machines that I own show 8 cpu's in all those areas. It was fine till he did a system restore.

You need to leave msconfig alone, "Number of processors" needs to be unchecked. After that restart and never use msconfig in the regard.

if device manager lists 8 and msconfig lists4 it means 4 are hidden for windows.
Do this in elevated command prompt
    Code:
    bcdedit/deletevalue numproc
    Reboot and problem is solved.

I "Core I7" has 2, 4 or 6 cores! Intel Core - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Most likely you have 4 cores. Through hyperthreading it looks like you have 8.

It doesn't matter if you are looking at it in performance tab or the resource monitor it going to show the same thing. The only thing is that in the resource monitor it will tell if the cpu are park or unpark.
