What OS are you running on this board?
it is windows 7
also seriously, green leds only show up for the 1000 connections on the switch. Maybe version 2 of this switch differed.
Ok, on the motherboard, the 1000 port is all green both sides = 100.
The following link is for the latest Vista drivers for the 82547EI 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet LAN (you may need to install this in Compatibility Mode).

I tried that with compatability mode and get the error
No Intel adapters are present in this computer.
why does it say that? Does it consider the intel motherboard with intel networking non intel?
There is win7 install version and I get the same error.
Strange. It could well be that for some reason or other an alternative NIC was installed on your particular board.
With reference to Hardware Identification, can you give me what information shows for all devices in the Network adapters section. It should look something like PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0611&SUBSYS_00000000&REV_A2 (copied from Tutorial).
I took a screen shot showing it is an intel nic.
sure, here are the details
Code:PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1019&SUBSYS_34288086&REV_00 PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1019&SUBSYS_34288086 PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1019&CC_020000 PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1019&CC_0200
This is an 82547GI embedded controller
Which reached end of life in 2012
so is there a driver?
ARK | Intel® 82547GI Gigabit Ethernet Controller
which is supposedly this one, but when run says no adapters present
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Sear...net+Controller
pic showing this.
Thanks. That confirms that the board does indeed have the 82547EI NIC installed and, following the links from the database referred to in the Tutorial, I arrive at the same downloads as before.
It could be that the controller is faulty, and is only working at 100Mbs. You said that you also tried Ubuntu and got the same result, so I wonder if my hypothesis is correct.
See if you can get hold of a PCI Gigabit network card to check this out. Alternatively, you might just have to accept that the board only works at the 100Mbs speed.
