Please allow me to push cowardice aside and address the following:

Two Cables you just have a way with words, don't you? Apparently you do know more than everyone else
I know I will step on Gary's toes here, and that is not my intention at all. In fact, he has done much to help me and I trust his judgment.

With that said, and it is not a disclaimer but an honest statement, let me go on to add that when TwoCables gives advice, you can assume that is well researched and well thought-out. That's just how his mind works. He does not BS and he does not blow smoke, and unlike most young people nowadays his thinking is not slap happy.

TwoCables can, however, be mind-numbingly intransigent when he believes in something. I happen, as my post indicates, disagree strongly with his "less is more" argument with PSU wattage. Like TC, I also do my homework. So there are times when we disagree philosophically on a subject - as we do now with PSU's.

But never, ever do I lose my temper with him. This is not Toms Hardware, for crying out loud (read some of the inhuman, nasty as hell retorts on that trash forum if you don't know what I'm talking about). This is a classy forum, as is OCN and with lots of really smart and kind-hearted people.

    More simply put,

    Let's all be friends.

The problem wasn't that what he was saying was wrong, it was technically sound with data to back it up. The problem was we were giving the OP some sound suggestions and he was trying to not only flaunt his knowledge, but indicate that we didn't know what we were talking about. I suggested the high end SeaSonic and Corsair PSU's for the OP's new build, and I didn't need charts and posts from another forum to back it up. Everybody knows those are great PSU's, and I personally own one and I can attest to the build quality. If the OP wanted to know mathematically the bare minimum he could get by with, his posts would have been golden..........he didn't though.

I don't harbor any grudge towards him because like it or not, he did his homework and I can respect that. In fact, I saw another thread where he offered some great advice and I thought I may have been a little edgy with him in this thread.........but I got over that. The important thing is, the OP got a good tutorial in PSU's and some good recommendations....it's all good in the hood.

Don't worry about it Wrenches I have all Corsairs and I wouldn't have anything else mate I just saw in the Corsair forum site the V2 is no longer in production and so the V3 is probably the next "edition" of it along.
Personally I would have gone another $20 and got the CX 500 modular but I don't know what the prices are in your part of the world

Just found this if you could go the extra $15 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139028

I actually like these type of threads, as long as they don't get out of hand. I think the subject was very well discussed and many people probably learned a lot from it. The OP certainly got his money's worth of info and can make an intelligent buying decision. Kelly's right, Twocables was correct in that he could run that rig on 450-500W. But, I would rather have too much than not enough. I could probably run mine on the same, but me and my AX850 tells you how I feel on the subject. If I decide I want to add another card, I don't have to upgrade my PSU too. And, I'm subject to do something like that. Personally, I enjoyed the thread and hope to see more like it.

The author of the article that was taken from is an exceptionally busy person right now. :/

I'm going to stop you right there because I'm insulted. I am not flaunting my knowledge! I never do that and I never will. I feel that that's what immature people do, so that's why I'm insulted. All I was doing was trying to help Drops, and I was also simultaneously having to continually post proof for everyone who didn't like what I posted (I think I had to defend every post I made). I do not help others in order to impress people because I know that it's not about me; its about them. I help others because they need help. When there are facts to post, I post them. If I recognize that I'm not being taken seriously like what happened here in this thread, I put more effort into it and I stop sugar-coating it. When I feel that no one is listening, I persist until someone finally recognized that maybe I do know what I'm talking about. If that counts as flaunting my knowledge, then maybe I should stop coming to SevenForums because this is how I am on Overclock.net and there isn't one single person who has ever expressed a problem with the way I help others and with the way I post information. I get nothing but appreciation and gratitude over there. I'm just stating how it is; I'm not bragging or anything immature like that. When you get to know me, you'll find that I put everyone else first.

To be honest, I feel like I'm getting this kind of response on here because I'm a new member. I came here because I was told that this place is superior to Overclock.net in the respect that the people here are far more professional and friendly. I did not expect to be received like this just because I am new here. I had hoped that I would never be judged by my join date. At least, I hope that's not what's happening here. I would just like to be treated as an equal.

I apologize that I persisted, but you tend to do that when you know what you're talking about but no one is listening and instead even acting like you don't really know what you're talking about.

I kinda lost my patience after I recognized no one was taking me seriously. Can you blame me after making all those posts and not having anyone say things like, "I didn't know that. Thank you"? This is why I think I'm being judged by my join date here on the forums. I mean instead, it seems like it didn't matter what I posted, the only kind of response I feel I received is closer to the likes if, "Sit down, kid. You don't know what you're talking about" I know that no one said this. I'm just saying that this is kind of how I feel about the responses I received.

I am not recommending the bare minimum; I'm recommending the sweet spot. I'm I made that clear many times already. This is what makes me angry: no one is listening to me because I'm new! Does being new mean that I also don't know what I'm talking about? What do I have to do in order to be taken seriously? Do I have to have a giant well-made image in my signature and a bunch of fancy badges in my postbit? Do I have to have fancy formatting in my posts? Do I have to invite friends from Overclock.net to back me up?

Anyway, again, I am not suggesting the bare minimum., but the sweet spot.

I don't know how this is going to sound, but I don't care at this point: I have spent over 4 years on Overclock.net, over 18+ hours per day (ever day) during that entire time. For some reason, I spent the majority of my time obsessing over power supplies; I just kind of fell into it. Today, I focus mainly on PSU-related threads. There are at least a half a dozen true PSU experts over there who I've learned from. I've also learned from experience and also by posting a ton of incorrect information because they have corrected me each time. When I'm corrected, I remain corrected. Thanks to them, I no longer post incorrect PSU-related information. I feel responsible for the advice I give, and so I don't mess around.

If you want to look me up, then here's my account link:

    http://www.overclock.net/u/78996/twocables

I am not saying that I am a PSU expert. On the contrary, I look like a beginner in comparison to the real PSU experts on Overclock.net. I'm just hoping to be taken seriously from now on when I talk about PSUs. I will never B.S. anyone. I will never allow myself to post bad advice or incorrect information. I will never allow myself to recommend anything that would put the person I'm helping at risk in the future. If I'm not 100% sure about something, then I will tell you. If I am stating something with confidence, then it's 100% fact (unless I clearly state that it's either a guess or my opinion). So when I told Drops that all he needs is a 400-450W power supply if he will never have more than one video card, I mean it! That's not the bare minimum! That's the sweet spot and it will continue to be the sweet spot for a long time to come. Then with each new generation of CPUs and GPUs, this 450W recommendation becomes more and more overkill. If someone wants to challenge this information, then I'll post the proof again which has been ignored so far.

My recommendation is the sweet spot, not a bare minimum or anything close to it. I know how dumb it would be to recommend the bare minimum.

You could have two GTX 670s on a quality-made 550W power supply and it would never break a sweat. You could have two GTX 680s on a quality-made 650W power supply, and again, it would never even break a sweat. These are not the bare minimums: these are the sweet spots. Your AX850 has enough power to have four GTX 670s! You could even have four GTX 680s if you don't overclock anything.

Your actual gaming load right now with one GTX 670 is at about 250-300W. With two GTX 670s, your gaming load would never exceed 375-450W. So a better fit for your system would be a quality-made 550-650W power supply. This would also maximize your average PSU efficiency. Right now you're getting about 80+ Bronze because of the tiny load on it. Your average load when you're not gaming is closer to about 100-125W. Right now while I'm typing this up, my system is only pulling about 65-70W. These days, I only use my computer for internet and e-mail and this means I could (and probably should) be using a 350W power supply with no problems whatsoever.

To everyone: I apologize for everything. I can only hope for your forgiveness and understanding.

I honestly didn't notice your join date until I read your last post. I didn't notice your Rep level, post count or anything....except from where you are from. I joined this forum a few years ago and didn't say a word until fairly recently.....I don't put much stock in forum/user statistics. Feel what you want about how you are being treated, but I don't think you have to prove anything, just as I don't. I know what I'm talking about most of the time or I wouldn't post in a thread......hence why being called an amateur who thinks I'm an expert pissed me off. It's derogatory anyway you read it, and maybe THAT is why you feel the way you feel. I made a suggestion of 2 VERY popular power supplies that have all the right features at a great price, with a great warranty and you wanting to argue about that makes no sense.

Be insulted all you want buddy, you see it as "having to back up your posts" and others see it as flaunting what you've read and studied about the subject. Nobody said you were wrong.......get over it. I didn't have to do anymore research on the units I recommended as I've already done the legwork before I bought mine. When someone wants a PSU in the "sweet spot" I will refer them to you.....when they just want a recommendation, well I'll give them my recommendation.

I was not talking about anyone when I said that. What I said was that the experts I learned from on Overclock.net are not amateurs who think that they are experts. They are real experts. I'm trying to find various ways to qualify what I'm saying, to prove that I'm not just trying to impress people. There is nothing more to it than that, so please stop being insulted because it had nothing to do with anyone anywhere. I wasn't calling anyone "amateurs who think they're experts".

When you get to know me, you'll find that I never stoop to such levels.

Please stand down. This is a huge misunderstanding.

Those who see this as me flaunting my knowledge are dead wrong. I do not do immature things like that.

Twocables, as far as I am concerned you have nothing to apologize for. I learned a lot from the thread I would not have known if you hadn't been here. I am quite aware you know what you are talking about and don't believe I said otherwise. If I did, I apologize. I still say I think it was, at least mostly, a good discussion and the OP has all the information he needs to make an intelligent buying decision. That is what he was asking for, isn't it? As far as I'm concerned, you are welcome on any thread I'm posting in. I knew when I bought the 850 it was overkill. But, I tend to always do that. The board, Ram and CPU are overkill for what I do also. I'm just that way and probably always will be. No need to apologize and I hope to see you on many threads here.
