Windows 7 64-bit does not recognize HP P2015DN USB printer on install

    Hi all,

I have been attempting to install my HP P2015DN USB printer (connected locally, not to a network), and Windows 7 Professional 64-bit (SP1) does not recognize the printer. There is an additional printer that I use for my PC, but this is the primary one.

I have checked various posts on these forums regarding this, but practically all of them relate to networked printers, not a single, stand alone printer. I have the correct drivers, and normally, this should not be an issue.

I would also like to add that this occurred after installing Win 7 clean, with the exception of monitor/video card drivers. I was in the process of installing all my hardware before starting with any other software.

Any assistance regarding this matter would be appreciated.

    Cheers,
    Mike T.

    Hi,

Have you double-checked to see that you are attempting to use the x64 driver?

Does Windows Update attempt to install a driver automatically when you connect and turn on the printer?

    Hi Golden,

Thank you for responding to my post.

I am using the x64 driver (upd-pcl5-x64-5.5.012834.exe). In all honesty, I do not remember whether Windows Update attempted to install a driver or not. I would have disabled Windows Update, as I have a dial-up connection. I have access to another PC (my sister's) that has broadband so I don't spend an eternity downloading large files.

I did notice that Win7 defaults printers to the LPT1 port as opposed to a virtual USB port. A bit difficult as there is no parallel port on my mobo (Asus P7P55D-E LX). As with any new OS, for me at least, this is a learning experience!

    Cheers,
    Mike T.
