Would the graphics card have to be the same brand as the motherboard?

Hello everyone, sorry for troubling you guys again, I'm a tech noob, so I need help.

If I were to buy an ASUS motherboard. Am I required to buy an ASUS GPU with it or could I just buy one from MSI or EVGA to use on my ASUS motherboard?

graphics card compatibility with new motherboard
Hi, I just upgraded my motherboard from the m4a78 to the asus m5a78L. However i now have issues with FPS lag that I never had with the older motherboard ? Am i missing something here because surely updating to a much newer motherboard shouldn't have issues ? Thanks for any help I receive
