Finding RAM and HDD speed without a software

In a laptops store where it's not possible to install programs like "cpu-z", How to find:

1> RAM SPEED in MHZ eg (800,1333,1600,1866)
2> HDD SPEED in RPM eg(5400,7200)

without asking anyone, they may lie, or they don't know.
the laptop may have windows 7 or 8 home version probably. (the 1 that comes with new laptops)
    For multiple brands (hp,dell,Toshiba,,,,)

IS That Possible to know without a software ???

Hello Genova21 and welcome to Seven Forums.

Most (if not all) new computers come with a manufacturer's specification sheet for that specific computer. The spec sheet lists just about everything you need to know. This is a sample spec sheet for a Sony Vaio and it can be opened in Notepad:

    spec sheet.txt

If it's a used computer you should still be able to get the name of the manufacturer and a part number for the RAM, hard drive, etc. With that info you should be able to go online to get the specs. More time consuming but certainly possible.

The spec sheet should have it, especially the HDD speed, and you may be able to enter the BIOS to see the memory speed, which isn't going to have any real noticeable effect on your usage. If you are concerned about performance, just make sure it has enough memory for your needs, and consider an SSD.
