New laptop wont turn on unless plugged in

My parents have just bought a new Toshiba Satellite C855 -1J1, and it wont work unless it is plugged in. If it is on and you pull the power adapter out or in any way disconnect the power it will turn off. If it is turned off it will not turn on without the power adapter being plugged in.

I have checked to make sure the battery is inserted correctly and it is. The status of the battery is also showing that it is at 100%, but it will not work at all in anyway with just its battery and you can only get it to work with an external adapter to power it.

Before I take it back the shop does anyone have any idea what it may be.

    Regards

I would take it back. Sounds like a bad connection somewhere.

What you can do is check all the pins of the battery and battery plug-ins whether they look OK - but that's about all the diagnostics that come to mind.

Sometimes manufacturers place a plastic cover over the battery leads to assure you have a new battery ready for a full charge. Remove the battery and double check the connections on the battery and the laptop.

Also check the power settings in W7 on power and battery. If all OK then I really think the unit needs to go back and be exchanged.

Thinking the same, just looked at the user manual that came with the laptop and it says that if there is an amber light then the battery has either no charge or it is partially charged. Th
