If you can tell me the name of your laptop - there must a few versions - what you need to do is go to the hp site - type - hp.com in the address bar of your browser and hit enter - click support & drivers - select download drivers & software and type in the name of your laptop under "enter a product name/number" - it will be a DV9700 something and see what drivers come up - find anything that is chipset, sata, or AHCI and update, also look for a firmware update for the dvd rom.

OK i think i found it - HP Pavilion dv9723ca Entertainment Notebook PC -

You could go to the nvidia site and update to the latest nforce chipset drivers - setup a restore point firstly :

Sorry I cant be of more help, but you could help yourself in the future by filling out your system specs.

Since hp doesnt officially support youR laptop with W7 you might consider a external dvd if you cant find a solution

I actually got my laptop repaired because of that issue, and they recommended me to just format my whole hard drive and clean install Windows 7. When I got home, my DVD Drive was gone again. I'll have a go at those downloads but if it doesn't work, I'll just do what the technician said. Thanks for the help!
