Arduino - Com port error - MsPorts.dll 0x00006e87
Hello all,
I've been trying to communicate with an arduino for a while now (For those who know arduinos, I am using an arduino ethernet with the USB2SERIAL LIGHT attachment which allows for serial communications). 99.99999% of the time, it's plug in arduino via USB, install drivers, and everything works fine. That's how it has been for me. However, I have recently been getting an error where my device manager won't assign the arduino a COM port. I checked in device manager and the arduino drivers are installed properly (no yellow triangle) but there is no COM port associated with it. Confused, I tried to manually set one, but every time I go under advance settings and assign it to COM port 4, mmc.exe fails on me. I go to the event viewer and find this error.
Faulting application name: mmc.exe, version: 6.1.7600.16385, time stamp: 0x4a5bc3f1
Faulting module name: MsPorts.dll, version: 6.1.7600.16385, time stamp: 0x4a5bc616
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x00006e87
Faulting process id: 0x98c
Faulting application start time: 0x01ce24cc8051b1ff
Faulting application path: C:\Windows\system32\mmc.exe
Faulting module path: C:\Windows\system32\MsPorts.dll
After some googling, I find out that the 0xc000005 exception code relates to a memory problem. I believe the MsPorts.dll is throwing the fault offset (0x00006e87 code) but I have been unable to find anything on this error.
Basically, I've hit the brick wall of where to go next. I'm still trying to track down the 0x00006e87 error code but I'm having no luck as of now. Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Matt
