Yes invest in another 2GB of ram and make it a total of 4. As for the HD, Sata is really not all that much faster than IDE but if you can go for the new technology in hard drives now called SSD's (Solid State Drive). Immensely faster than any SATA hard drive today!

Nope, it won't be worth the extra cash. You're running a P4 system, so 2 gigs of RAM should be more than enough, even for games and other heavy applications. Plus, DDR1 400 is getting quite expensive these days.

A SATA HDD will provide extra bandwidth for the demands of modern software.

I just picked up 2x1gb sticks of DDR 400 for $90 at an online store here in oz. That's a good price. The OP's mainboard supports up to 4gb and if he's got the cash he should definately grab more RAM

    That is quite sad honestly. For $72 I could get a 4 GB set (2 x 2 GB) of DDR2 1066. Or for $90 DDR2 1200.

Older RAM such as DDR 400 is generally more expensive than DDR2. Mostly because of supply and demand I think.

Depends. If you have 32-bit, it will most likely only use 3 of the 4. If you have 64-bit, then I would recommend putting in the two gigs.

More RAM is nice to have - but an SSD will make a really BIG difference. Make sure you buy one that supports Trim (which is supported in Win7). An OCZ Vertex or the Intel X25 come to mind. Trim guarantees that the write speed does not degrade over time. Here you find what Trim does: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TRIM_(SSD_command)

    Archangel83,

Hello & Welcome to SevenForums :)

Looking at your specs it looks like your MB has SATA HD connections also.

A lot of members buy parts from NewEgg online.

I have got several 1tb SATA HDs from them at great prices.

Good prices on memory, too !

Enjoy Win7 and check out all the tutorials & customizations here
