Some devices are supposed to have the ability to disconnect/power off without ejecting, but I think it is most safe to reboot given that situation. Comes down to preference.

What happened is that some process had a handle on your disk. Usually the easiest is to wait until you shutdown the system and remove the device then. At shutdown, all handles are released.

Here we go again. This time I have a clean install of Win7 Home Edition. I just plug the disk via firewire, copy a file, then want to eject it but it says a process is still accessing it How annoying.

I also realized that in the disk list in Explorer, my WD disk is missing icons (see screenshot) .. do I need some special drivers for it ?

unable to eject usb
I'm using win 7 64 bit and every time I try to eject my usb, a message show up informing me that something is still using it. I checked with task manager and find no such thing. I scanned my comp and didn't find any virus. Even if I just plug it in and do nothing, I still got the same problem....

Remove local (boot) disk from device eject menu?
I upgraded my sister's computer from Vista to 7, and now her boot disk shows up as an ejectable drive. how do I fix this, as I'm pretty sure Windows will become unstable if she accidentally ejects the boot drive

Why do I have to try to eject a USB drive twice for it to work. Most of the time I try to eject a USB thumb drive I get the message that I can't eject the drive. But when I try to eject it a second time it works.

I'm having some issues with my 17x ( running windows 7 ) for some reason it will not eject a disc. Whenever I try to open My computer it just tries to load it but fails. I've tried the "eject" button on the m17x with no luck. Any suggestions? The wireless cards seems to be having issues as well not...
