My Dell has the numbers on these keys which I have to hold the Fn key to use. It's odd because it has the normal row of numbers too.

The way it works is. 1, The number lock on the generic usb number pad is on. 2, hold down both the alt key and the fn key down wile typing in the ascii code on the generic usb number pad. Then let go the alt and fn keys and the item that goes to the code that was typed will appear next to the cursor.

How does it work Steve? You had said it didn't work with the ALT key?
quote Steve: I finely stumbled on how to punch in the ascii code using the generic usb number pad. You do it the same way as if the laptop had a built in number pad on the internal keyboard.
