    Installing new HDD

I’m trying to install another HDD, i have all the relevant cables (i think), this is what i have:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Wired--Up-SA...rds=sata+cable

And this is the HDD i have:

    Seagate Barracuda 3.5 inch 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB 6GB/S Internal SATA Drive: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

The picture bellow (Forgive the dust lol) shows the red circle around the power cable in the current HDD running from the HDD into the white cover then out again to the PSU.

My question is how do I get power into my new HDD?

    Thanks

    Hello Rob,

Double check the pins in the 4-pin adapter to see if they are fully pushed in. I had one where pin 1 had to be manually pushed back down in the connector when connected. Be sure the power to the PSU is unplugged before doing this. It could give your day a spark if you don't.

    Hope this helps, :)

thanks for the reply Brink, im really trying to find out how i connect the other end of the cable to a power source...one end is in the HDD, but where do i plug the other end into?

is it the PSU, or a place on the motherboard?

The 4-pin to SATA power cable would have the SATA end (black) connected to the HDD, and the male 4-pin molex end (white) would be connected to a female 4-pin molex connector that runs off of the PSU (power supply).

    (female 4-pin molex)

It looks to me like you are out of connectors on your power supply.

You need a molex splitter and a sata to molex adapter. It looks like you have an adapter there in the picture. How many hard drives total will you have in this pc ?

That pc needs to be cleaned, that`s disgusting !! LOL
