W7 RAID1 Mirror - HDD constantly in use

    Hi all

I'm running a software RAID 1 set up on a couple of WD Green HDD. It's been performing well for the last year or so.
Over the last week or so the hard drives have started running pretty much flat out. Annoyingly there's nothing in Resource Monitor to show what's causing this, and the drives both show as healthy in Disk Manager.

I tried uninstalling Microsoft Security Essentials as well as MBAM, then rebooted, but that made no difference. The drives run until shutdown, and then start straight up again as soon as the computer boots.

Any help with diagnosing this appreciated.

try disabling indexing on that drives. Write "indexing options" in the search box in the Start menu to open the panel.

Turns out one of the drives was failing, as the mirror is now showing errors. At least I've found the problem.

Sounds like it was trying to rebuild the RAID array because it wasn't an exact mirror anymore. I'd definitely back everything up and get another drive soon.

That drive's already out, broken the mirror so I have access to the data, and all data backed up to a spare drive until I can get a replacement and rebuild the array. :)
