So, Drive lights up...and you have checked with other cables as well...let's try this before you return the device...try it on other PC. If it is not working there as well...RMA, if the device is under warranty.
Hi,
It sounds to me like a simple case of it not being able to use the drive letter since its assigned elsewhere, but I would have expected it to show in Disk Management. Do you mind if we double check? Please follow the suggestions in this tutorial:

archer : ill try doing it
golden : ive checked it before but ill try it again
Hi the awkwardzolu,
Is your computer able to see and use other external drives? If the answer is "yes", then your external drive is definitely faulty. If the problem drive repeats the same problem on another working computer that would double-confirm it.
Your options in that case will be 1. to return it to the vendor/manufacturer and get a replacement if still under warranty. 2. to remove the HDD from the external casing, hook it up as an internal drive on the PC and check whether it performs. If it performs, it is your good luck. The HDD is OK. You can put it into another external case and use it.
If it does not work, end of the story. ( Some people try to get the same electronics interface card in the HDD, replace it and check whether that was faulty, but it is a long call for a normal user and also results are not guaranteed.)
golden : ive already checked it. but no, it does not show up in the disk management.
archer : no. but ill try connecting it using a well-functioned cable
jumanji: ill ask my brother about the warranty because he gave the hard disk to me.
