chkdsk result analysis
Hi all,
I am having issues with 1 of my 2TB hard drive. So far i have migrated all data in it to another hard drive. I am often encountering hiccups/hangs whenever accessing that drive so i think there is a problem with it. I reformatted the drive and ran the disk error checking tool. It took hours to complete and i just saw this in the event viewer:
Checking file system on E: Volume label is New Volume. CHKDSK is verifying files (stage 1 of 5)... 256 file records processed. File verification completed. 0 large file records processed. 0 bad file records processed. 0 EA records processed. 0 reparse records processed. CHKDSK is verifying indexes (stage 2 of 5)... 280 index entries processed. Index verification completed. CHKDSK is verifying security descriptors (stage 3 of 5)... 256 file SDs/SIDs processed. Cleaning up 1 unused index entries from index $SII of file 0x9. Cleaning up 1 unused index entries from index $SDH of file 0x9. Cleaning up 1 unused security descriptors. Security descriptor verification completed. 12 data files processed. CHKDSK is verifying file data (stage 4 of 5)... 240 files processed. File data verification completed. CHKDSK is verifying free space (stage 5 of 5)... 488341254 free clusters processed. Free space verification is complete. Adding 34584 bad clusters to the Bad Clusters File. Correcting errors in the master file table's (MFT) BITMAP attribute. CHKDSK discovered free space marked as allocated in the volume bitmap. Windows has made corrections to the file system. 1953512447 KB total disk space. 21588 KB in 7 files. 16 KB in 14 indexes. 125823 KB in use by the system. 65536 KB occupied by the log file. 1953226684 KB available on disk. 4096 bytes in each allocation unit. 488378111 total allocation units on disk. 488306671 allocation units available on disk.
It says that there were bad clusters in my HD and windows did some corrections. I do not know what it did. Did it fix the problems found? Can I still use this hard drive?
Thanks!
