Do Laser printers have an expiration date in the cartridge

Do Laser printers have an expiration date in the cartridge that can prevent printing like Inkjet cartridges?

I'm looking at the Brother HL-2280DW for someone.

Shelf life and expiration date are tow different concepts. Many, if not most or all toner cartridges are "chipped"; they have a chip that restricts or blocks printing features after a certain expiration date, mostly to discourage refilling although also avoiding the effects of end of shelf life is a minor factor.

I had to retire a perfectly good HP printer because: 1. It wouldn't run on Win 7 and 2. I couldn't find any cartridges that weren't expired. In the case of my printer, I could still print but I couldn't get into the "toolbox" to change settings, such as darkness, etc. Some printers completely block printing.

Thanks for the info and help!
I looked into this Brother printer specifically and it seems it does not use an expiration date in the cartridge.
It warns of End of Life based on page counter.
Brother also documents how to force continue printing after the End of Life message that prevents printing.

My HP LaserJet is 14 years old, the original cartridge latest 10 years.
