Building a Gaming PC, is this good?

That's a distinct possibility. Intel is going after the laptop and notepad market. They are just trying to give desktop users enough to keep us interested, I think. They are not really concerned about us. I read an article of an interview of an Intel exec. several months ago. He said Intel could have made a desktop chip the ran stock at 5GHz, but they didn't feel the need to. That told me a lot about intel's focus. they are not concerned about overclockers. I believe, agree or not, Intel believes they have the desktop market sewed up so the have no reason to cater to the enthusiast crowd. They are after AMDs laptop and notepad business, they feel they already have the enthusiast market. Whether you personally agree or not, that seems to be what Intel believes. Their goal seems to be to take AMD down in the CPU market. They have already said they are planning to solder chips to the boards in the future. They are going after the board manufacturers too, it seems. Intel is greedy, they want it all. Trust me, I'm an Intel guy, but I want AMD to pull a rabbit out of their hat real bad.

+1 one to that, life without AMD would be one hardly worth living...........kidding but kind of true!

I know you are an AMD guy at heart, Alan. But until AMD starts really pushing Intel, what we have is close to as good as we are going to get. And if AMD goes, you better buy a lottery ticket if you want to build another rig.

You speak the scary truth Steve. What was that movie with Will Smith....mr. Roboto or something...that's our future with Intel.

When I look at what Intel is doing and some of the info coming from them, That's the big picture I see. Iy's where it looks like Intel is heading.

I'm not 'putting you on the cross' Kelly. You are probably right, but Intel is at AMD's throat and going after them. AMD has lived for years on price. Remember when Intel's top mainstream enthusiast chip was $1000? Well it's now $350. They are trying to reduce AMD's price advantage too. I really don't think Intel cares about a charge of a monopoly any more than Microsoft did. What that suit cost Microsoft was 'chump change' to them and would be to Intel too. Heck, they have more attorney's working for them than Eric Holder.

besides, AMD's graphics cards will keep them in business, just maybe not the CPU business.

I was considering upgrading. But I think I may just hang on to my Sandy build for another year at the very least ... maybe 2.
Doensnt seem to be enough of a performance boost to justfy the cost of a new MOBO+CPU together.

Still considering a GPU upgrade though, but have a hard time justifying that one as well since my 570 is still going strong without much issue (On games I play anyway)

Funny thing but the features of the new mobo's to me are more of a reason to upgrade then the chip ! I don't think many of the features will trickle down to Gen.II boards.
