Building a Gaming PC, is this good?

Yeah, that's kind of how I did it. I had an E8400 overclocked to 4.05 GHz in a Gigabyte EP45-UD3P and "everyone" on Overclock.net wanted to see me get one of the new Core i5 or i7 CPUs when they came out. At the time, my only feeling was that it didn't seem worth it because my system was major overkill for me at the time (and it still would be).

When Sandy Bridge came out, a point was reached where a bunch of people convinced me to upgrade to it instead of simply upgrading to a Q9550 or a Q9650 (and overclocking it as high as possible). I felt that it was worth it because it sounded to me like Sandy Bridge is better than the first generation which made me want it even more.

When Ivy Bridge came out, I just looked the other way because it doesn't seem like a big enough performance increase to justify the cost and physical labor of upgrading. I'm even feeling the same about Haswell even though it's 2 generations after what I have, just like how Sandy Bridge was 2 generations after the Core2 series. Perhaps I'll upgrade when Broadwell comes out. It might be fun to have that big of an upgrade.

The next time I'd upgrade after Broadwell, I'll be getting an AMD CPU because it sounds to me like it's a guarantee that they'll continue making socketed CPUs long after Intel is done doing it. So Intel will probably lose a large amount of customers. Of course, we're probably the minority of their customers so they probably couldn't care less.

AMD messed up by selling off their foundries and being at the mercy of whatever the foundries are willing to make for them as far as architecture and manufacturing process/die size.

That begs the question, Kelly. Why did AMD do that? They knew the consiquences better than you or I. It almost seems like throwing in the towell, dosen't it?

Funny thing but the features of the new mobo's to me are more of a reason to upgrade then the chip ! I don't think many of the features will trickle down to Gen.II boards.

I agree, Alan. I looked at some of the higher end boards' features and was fairly impressed. I don't think it will trickle down because a lot of it is the chipset. I haven't been impressed with what has come out about the CPUs. Of course, remember this time of the game when Ivy came out. Ivy won't overclock as high as Sandy? That was absolute hog wash. They overclock higher, easier and are tougher.

AMD needed quick cash, that's why they sold their foundries off.

Man if you can get some coffee and food and take the pace this will tell you cool stuff already and this new MSI board is a sweet value.....IMHO

Well I don't know about the case but i'm not falling for that MSI nonsense again they truly disappointed me and a whole heard of people

Also this guy is Bias as fk he pretty much doesn't give anything credit besides Nvida and Intel projects which he shouldn't be that much of a jerk about just like Lavcoprice tech a bunch of haters and ananana my system is better then yours bs

Logan and Linus has been the only people I seem to trust so far everyone else is like a robot and repeating what everyone else says pretty sad

Hey guys, I have my new rig scheduled to be purchased on the 4th of July (3 weeks left

) - this is my current build

Now I wanted to ask you guys if there are any potential improvements I can make for maximum performance? I have an additional €40-50 (maybe, depends on next week's paycheck statement) to spend, so what should I give an upgrade? I will be getting the GTX 760 which is said to be released on the 25th of June - if the price is about the same as a GTX 660 Ti.

Looks really good and should be a blast to build and a strong performer !

I doubt the price for the 760 will be the same as the 660TI. In the US the 760 cost about $100 more than the 660TI.

But... the 760 isn't even out yet? This article, and multiple others too, reported it would be around $249-$299, which is around the same price of a GTX 660 Ti.
