Your Right, I left the 6 off the Violet when I looked it up.
Motherboard Specifications, M2N78-LA (Violet) | HP® Support
So you should be ok with an AM3 socket then.

Haha.. so I should be good with any am3 cpu aslong as its in.the 7xx/8xx/9xx range that my.mobo says it supports ?

The Phenom II X4 965be is the chip to get then and it runs great and overclocks well ! I've seen it for as little as $79.00 but I would get it sooner than later or they could all be gone one day.
