If it's a AM2 or AM2+ then I would do some more research. The Phenom IIx4 965 or 965BE are both 125 watt chips. I just set my old 965BE up in a new mobo with 16gb of 1600 Mhz ram and Tommy's old 6870 and the rig is strong....real strong, that's always been a great chip !

    Here is a build I did 2 & 1/2 years ago. AMD x6 1100T

I am not sure if they are still manufacturing any x4 cpu's any more. So when they are gone, they are gone

Great news and I would start watching for sales, that TigerDirect price is sweet and as long as they don't all sell out you could get it even lower but I wouldn't haggle over a couple of bucks, at this performance level it's a steal !

Like Doc said above, the CPU you are looking at is 125 Watt TDP and the CPU you are currently using is 95 Watt TDP. I know the motherboard spec page says AMD Phenom II X4 9xx/9xxe/8xx Quad-Core (Deneb) but that doesn't mean it supports CPU's with a higher than 95 Watt TDP. That means that CPU's in that family with the same requirements should work. I would do more research, or even call or chat with HP and find out before I spent any money.
