I think you'll find it very hard to change to processor in most laptops, unless it is a high end gaming laptop.

When it comes to CPUs OEM computers in general and laptops in particular are not very upgrade friendly. CPU compatibility can change with even a minor motherboard or BIOS revision. The most reliable information would be from the manufacturer but obtaining that information can be difficult. Manufacturers are more interested in selling you a new computer then helping with upgrades.

CPU upgrades are not usually very cost effective. Most CPUs that are compatible would provide little benefit.

Even if it worked, it would likely change the heat profile, which could lead to other failures. I guess it still surprises people down the road, but that's the sacrifice you make when you choose a laptop and portability.
