Can i put an e8500 into inspiron 530?

Hi all. I was just looking to upgrade my processor, and was wondering if anyone knew if I could put an e8500 into my dell inspiron 530? It currently has an e4500. And if i can, is it as easy as just swapping it out? I have the latest bios update.
Oh yea, what will happen with my ram? I know the e8500 run a faster fsb, i think double. Or will it not effect it? I don't know and am looking for answers.

Thanks in advance for the input.

also, what will happen to my ram? the fsb is like double on the e8500. Will i have to purchase new ram, or will the old ram work? CAN I put faster ram in afterwards? just curios, cuz i have upgraded everything else but processor and ram.

You should look for documentation about that, too many stuff around for us to know everything. The manual usually tells you what can be upgraded and what cannot. These are the manuals that explain how to do everything.

Point is, I need the motherboard name (should be printed on it, bigger than anything else, or on a sticker) to have a chance to tell you if it will work or not, as this is a pre-built and its bios is likely locked to work with only a limited upgrade possibility.

RAM again depends from the motherboard's documentation, but your old ram will surely work whatever processor you swap in (if the motherboard recognizes the processor anyway).

    Hi allen1979,

As correctly suggested by 'bobafetthotmail', the possibility of upgrading processor in any computer is determined by the motherboard/Chipset installed. Inspiron 530 is shipped with an Intel G33 Express Chipset. The Chipset supports up-to 1333 MHz FSB speed, that matches with FSB speed of the processor.

    Refer to the image below:

Also find detailed specifications of Intel G33 Chipset: ARK | Intel® G33 Express Chipset (Intel® 82G33 Graphics and Memory Controller)
    - Click 'Compatible Products' (Left Pane) to find the list of all processors compatible with Intel G33 Chipset.

Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 is listed as one of the processors in this list; implies that you should be able to upgrade it without any problem. However, Dell does not recommend or offer processor upgrade but it is as your discretion in case you really wish to go ahead with it. Warranty per say, issues arising due to the upgrade will not be covered under warranty, however we will continue providing support for other issues and parts.

As already stated earlier, you may continue using the same RAM modules. The system supports an upgrade up-to 8 GB (4X2GB) RAM with the Quad-Core processor configuration. The memory speeds supported include 533, 667, and 800 MHz DDR2 memory. You may choose to upgrade the memory later, when desired.

'bobafetthotmail' has shared the system manual in his post. You may use that information to replace the processor. Please ensure that you follow all safety instructions mentioned in the manual while working with the system.

Hope you find the information useful. Do reply if you have any further questions. I would be glad to assist.

I would have asked this on the Dell Community, desktop hardware forum. Those there familiar with Dell's and upgrades. Saurabh has provided some excellent advice and info but the Dell forum would have been the place to start.

There were two different motherboards used in the 530's and that will determine what CPU can be used.

Go to the Dell community and do a search for "Insprion 530 CPU Upgrade" and it will give you info on CPU's.
