Save attachment somewhere. Double click the saved file. Imports succesfully? Attach usb device again. Does it have a drive a letter now? Can you change it? |

Run REGEDIT and browse to HKLM\SYSTEM\MountedDevices
In the right pane you see a this (and much more): #{7e130408-d361-11e2-8060-0025d3b22ded} #{7e130409-d361-11e2-8060-0025d3b22ded} Click on the first and press DEL-button. Do the same for the second value. Press F5 to refresh. Does right pane change? Now try to assign a drive letter. Switch back to regedit and press F5 (refresh). Does right pane contents change? detach usb drive. attach us drive. Switch to regedit and press F5. right pane does change? |

Hi dave (OP),
Did those drives EVER work properly with that OS as installed now? What was done to that system, just before it stopped working properly, best you can recall....? Thought about it longer, my suspect is: SOUTHBRIDGE issue (chipset), just the driver hopefully.
