speed the USB flash memory up
Hello guys,
I have an USB flash memory brand PNY. Its speed is very low, that is, when I copy or delete files into/from it, it takes a very long time to be done. Is there a way to speed it up?
Thanks.

Well if you're using USB 2.0 with it, it's naturally pretty slow these days. I would just say use USB 3.0 when copying or moving files to it.
You can also optimize it to perform better with this guide:
Make Your USB Flash Drive REALLY Fast
Hope I helped :)
Well since you have 2, I suggest you upgrade or use the guide I showed you; there are not very many ways to improve the performance of a flash drive alone.
"USB 3.0 is capable of transfer speeds of up to 5Gbps (gigabits per second); that's a little over 10 times faster than USB 2.0's 480Mbps (1,000Mbps equals 1Gbps). In practice, it won't always be this much faster — mileage may vary depending on hardware configuration — but it will always be much faster than USB 2.0"

I you do follow the procedure be sure you always follow the proper procedure when removing the drive. If you don't and remove the drive at the wrong time you WILL experience data loss.
Also be sure to under stand that flash drives are the least reliable of modern storage media and should not be trusted as primary storage for important files. They should be used primarily as a transport media. I have heard many stories where people have kept important files on a flash drive and have it fail. In most cases the data is lost.
Thank you very much sdadamo and LMiller7. I think it's better to set back the settings to default state for preventing the risks. Your comments were very worthwhile.
Correct, it's an another solution that can be used for the issue. Thank you.
Just because it is rated at USB 2.0, doesn't mean it will run fast, either. I have 10 different flash drives on my desk right now, and some of the generic ones that were giveaways run dog slow compared to brand name ones. So the speeds to vary greatly from drive to drive.
How old is your flashdrive, older drives like 4 years or more are very slow.
Also plug them directly to your USB port and not a hub and see if that helps speed.
an average transfer rate for USB2 is about 15 MB/S
Depending on the brand and your USB bus bandwidth it can be more or less.
If youre using USB wifi, youre using precious bandwidth, try connecting to a different USB port with its own controller.
Im getting about 75 MB/S on my USB3 16/32GB flashdrive, love it! Its sooooo worth it..
I paid $12 for 16GB USB3 and $20 for 32GB USB3 at MicroCenter
