    MP3 Write Protection USB problem.

Hello Im confused with this guys answer here, it seems to be the solution to the problem im having.

Ive insert my sony mp3 player and when I went to delete a folder i got this message:MP3 Write Protection
Ive understood the instructions upto step c)c. Highlight StorageDevicePolicies, and then create a New DWORD (32-bit) Value named as WriteProtect.

does he mean just make a new folder , rename it to StorageDevicePolicies? can somone please explain or do a short video tutorial how to do this, I cant seem to find any video tutorials on how to go about, and Im afraid
incase I ruin the pc function if i make a mistake

Afaik, sony players (as most others) require a specific software to manage them.
What is the model of your mp3 player?

He means to create a new registry key under StorageDevicePolicies key, which will be DWORD value called WriteProtect. It's not really a folder though it looks a bit like one, it's just a sub key under an existing key.

ok, that device does not need a specific software, it's just drag and drop stuff with explorer.

right click and go to properties and untick read only under attributes. I suggest you highlight all the music files you have and do the same thing with them too.

read only is unticked under attributes. I have another option which i can click which is"hidden" thats the only box i can tick, as read only is greyed out, cant tick it.

do you have a button called "unblock" on the files/folders? click on it and it should un-grey the tick box.
