I wanted to upgrade my RAM with a 4GB stick running instead of old 2 GB DDR3 stick

bought a new ram for my Gigabyte GA-G41M-Combo motherboard, when i plug my 4gb ram the pc doesnt boot
This 4GB DDR3 RAM Kingston Technology Company - Kingston Memory Search - Search Results for: KVR13N9S8/4

It says in my motherboard specifications on Gigabyte's website tht my motherboard "Support for DDR3 1333(O.C.)/1066/800 MHz memory modules"

I'm afraid that RAM is not supported, I downloaded the Memory Support List from: (and attached)

    GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 775 - GA-G41M-Combo (rev. 2.0)

Also, you are better off getting 2 sticks, since:
    Your motherboard:

    Features
Dual channel memory architecture, best to use two sticks to take advantage of the Dual channel, should be identical RAM sticks.

Multi-channel memory architecture - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

That motherboard supports very few 4 gig sticks at all and fact you have to overclock to handle 1333, I would just buy one step lower: 2 * 2 gig 1066 sticks.

Well, you can't do any overclocking unless you can get the PC to boot, so you are stuck with getting the correct RAM for your motherboard.

However, the RAM you bought meets all the specs required for that motherboard. It should work. It is entirely possible that you just received a bad stick of RAM. Happens.
You should ask for a replacement.

Kingston Value RAM is very iffy. When I worked the Dell forums, the KVR was almost always a problem. I've seen issues with the KVR on other forums too, and other "techies" recommending to avoid it. The regular Kingston RAM is OK, just avoid the KVR.

The old stick is fine in specification, and it works.
I still think you just got a defective stick of RAM

If it's not supported it's not gtd to work at all, and you really should use 2 sticks for best performance, so I would suggest buying another of the same 2gig that works.

I agree about staying clear of cheap ram, I buy heatsinked RAM sticks with a low CAS rating, haven't had a bad one in years.

Just one note on the QVL lists: motherboard manufacturers rarely if ever update these. It is the list of tested RAM at the time of release to market. It is not a comprehensive list. And it will not include compatible RAM manufactured after the publishing of the QVL.

It is best practice to choose RAM from the QVL, but it is not a requirement. RAM can be compatible without being on the list.

You should match the specs of the RAM on the QVL list to any new module you are considering for best results.

I have one rig with DDR2 KVR modules and they perform well, even overclocked @ 940MHz (2.1v - CL5).
